An honest wheelchair and mobility guide to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur: what's ramped, what's stairs, and when to use a specialist.

In a Nutshell

An honest wheelchair and mobility guide to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur: what's ramped, what's stairs.

Accessible Golden Triangle Tour: The Honest Wheelchair and Mobility Guide

Experience My India plans the Delhi, Agra and Jaipur circuit for travellers with mobility needs, from Rs 55,000 per person, and this page does the one thing most 'accessible tour' pages avoid: it tells you honestly what is genuinely accessible, what is only partial, and where you are better served by a mobility specialist with a fully-adapted vehicle. The good news, backed by wheelchair users who have done it: the Golden Triangle is more accessible than most people expect. The Archaeological Survey of India provides free wheelchairs and battery carts at the major monuments, the Taj platform is reached by ramps, and even 450-year-old Fatehpur Sikri has ramps through much of it. The honest news is that some sites are partial and some transport is specialist work. Both are on this page. Travellers with mobility needs do not need a different circuit; they need honest, verified access information and the right vehicle. The information gain here is the straight, site-by-site access picture, drawn from real wheelchair-user experiences and ASI facilities, plus an honest line on when to book a dedicated accessible operator instead of us. We would rather you have the accurate picture and the right provider than a booking that disappoints. Below is the honest guide.

Site by Site: The Accessible Itinerary, What Is Genuinely Reachable

This is drawn from ASI facilities and the real experiences of wheelchair users on this route: Taj Mahal: ramps run through the visitor grounds right up to the base of the marble platform, so you can see the Taj from every angle; only the small inner mausoleum chamber is stairs. Free wheelchairs are available at the gates and battery carts cover the distance from parking. Wheelchair users consistently report seeing the Taj fully and happily. Agra Fort: ramps and accessible courtyards cover much of it, with wide pathways and viewpoints; some stepped sections need assistance or are viewed from accessible areas. Fatehpur Sikri: surprisingly good — ramps reach much of this 16th-century site, and it is often rated one of the more wheelchair-navigable stops; battery carts help with distance. City Palace, Jaipur: largely accessible by ramp with spacious courtyards; a few galleries, such as the armoury, are reachable only by stairs. Amber Fort, Jaipur: reached by vehicle to the base (never the elephant, on welfare grounds); the base level and viewpoints give excellent context, while upper interiors involve steps. Jantar Mantar and Delhi sites (Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar): mostly flat grounds and gardens with clear paths; some monuments have steps at the structure itself. Mehtab Bagh and Baby Taj: flat garden paths and ramps make the Taj sunset view and the Baby Taj grounds easy; the Baby Taj interior has a few steps. We plan the route around the accessible options, use the ASI wheelchairs and carts, and tell you honestly where a section is stairs-only rather than pretending otherwise.

Important — Read This

Here is the transparency that matters most. Our standard vehicles are comfortable air-conditioned cars, not fully wheelchair-adapted vans with lifts. For travellers who can transfer to a car seat and use a folding wheelchair at sites (with the ASI wheelchairs and carts doing much of the work), we plan a genuinely good, gently-paced trip. But if you require a fully wheelchair-adapted vehicle with a ramp or lift, or full-time boarding assistance, that is specialist work, and dedicated accessible operators (with genuinely adapted transport, adapted-bathroom hotel vetting, and trained mobility teams) do it better than we can. In that case we will honestly refer you to one rather than take a booking we cannot fully serve. We would rather you travel well with the right provider than book the wrong one with us.

  • You expect every monument to be fully step-free. Some sections are stairs-only, and we will not claim otherwise.
  • You want us to guess your needs. Accessible planning depends on an honest, detailed conversation about your specific mobility.
