The Complete Delhi, Agra & Jaipur Guide | Experience My India
The Golden Triangle is India's most travelled route: a loop linking Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, three cities that hold the country's Mughal, British and Rajput stories and its single most famous monument, the Taj Mahal. The three sit roughly 200 to 250 km apart, forming a triangle on the map, which is where the name comes from. This guide is the honest, complete version: how many days you actually need, when to go, how to travel it, what it costs, and which type of trip fits you, before you spend a rupee. When you are ready, Experience My India runs every version of it, and the whole family of tours branches off this page.

The three cities, at a glance

CityKey sightsWhy it mattersTypical days
DelhiOld Delhi: Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk bazaar New Delhi: Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, India GateThe capital and entry point. Mughal, British and modern India in one city.1 to 2 days
AgraTaj Mahal, Agra Fort, Baby Taj (Itmad-ud-Daulah), Fatehpur SikriHome to the Taj Mahal. Built by Shah Jahan for Mumtaz Mahal in the 17th century.1 to 2 days
JaipurAmber Fort (Sheesh Mahal), City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar MantarThe Pink City and capital of Rajasthan. The Rajput corner of the circuit.1 to 2 days

How many days do you actually need?

Here is the arithmetic most guides skip. The circuit's core icons add up to roughly 17 to 23 hours of actual visiting time at a normal pace (the Taj alone is 2 to 3 hours, Amber Fort 2.5 to 3), and then you add the road legs between cities. That gives a clear answer by duration.
DaysVerdict
1 dayThe Taj only, as a day trip from Delhi. You will not reach Jaipur.
3 daysThe circuit at speed, one highlight-day per city, early starts daily.
4 daysThe full loop, all icons touched, little breathing room.
5 daysThe sweet spot for most first-timers, all icons at a humane pace.
6 daysThe comfort point: a sunrise Taj, evening experiences, real slack.
7 daysDepth: the second-tier monuments and artisan time, for slow travellers or repeat visitors.
The one-line version we give on WhatsApp every week: three days shows you the circuit, five days lets you enjoy it, and six is where it stops feeling like a schedule. Compare all of them on the tours by duration and format page.

When to go

October to March is the season: cool, clear and comfortable, and priced accordingly, with December's Christmas and New Year period the busiest and dearest of the year. Two honest operational notes: December and January mornings bring fog to Agra, which can delay early trains and grey out a Taj sunrise, and April to June is genuinely hot (40C-plus), which is low season, cheapest, and best handled with early-morning sightseeing and an air-conditioned car. July to September brings the monsoon, with green landscapes, low prices and occasional rain. If a specific festival is your reason to travel, from Holi to Diwali, the festival and seasonal tours are built around those dates. One rule that overrides all of the above: the Taj Mahal is closed to general visitors every Friday. Any good itinerary is sequenced so your Agra day never lands on one.

Why plan your Golden Triangle with Experience My India

1
An itemised written quote, and the quote is the price. Your quote lists the real cost drivers, monument entries, the car or rail class, the hotel band, a licensed guide, line by line. We do not quote low and recover it in extras, and market changes after booking do not move your confirmed amount.
2
Honesty about the trade-offs. This guide tells you what each duration and budget genuinely gets you, including what it does not, because a right-fit trip beats a refund dispute.
3
Licensed guides and real inclusions. Ministry-of-Tourism guides, and entries stated in or out plainly, not discovered on the day.
4
Supplier terms passed through, never inflated, and a published Cancellation & Refund Policy with real numbers: 80 percent refunded beyond 30 days, 50 percent at 7 to 30 days, none within 7.
5
A human on WhatsApp, the team that actually plans and runs these trips, not a call centre.
