Nothing wrecks a shoot like a confiscation at security. Here is the honest, current picture so you pack right: Inside the Taj Mahal complex: DSLR, mirrorless and smartphone cameras are allowed for personal use. Tripods, drones, camera stabilisers, selfie sticks in some areas, and large bags are not. Photography inside the main mausoleum chamber is not allowed at all. Shoot the exterior, the platform and the gardens. Drones are strictly prohibited at and around the Taj and most monuments, with real legal penalties. Do not bring one expecting to fly it. Tripods need special ASI permission inside; at outside viewpoints like Mehtab Bagh, rules vary and are sometimes stricter than people assume, so we confirm per site rather than promising. Professional, commercial or pre-wedding shoots need a separate ASI permit applied for in advance; personal photography on a normal ticket does not. If you are shooting commercially, tell us early so the permit is real and in hand. Do not photograph a national flag or a brand logo at the Taj, and avoid poses staff consider indecent; these are enforced. That clarity, rather than 'bring your camera,' is the information gain. We would rather you left the tripod in the car knowingly than lost it at the gate.

Every Golden Triangle page treats the Taj Mahal's Friday closure as a problem to schedule around. For a photographer it is an opportunity. On Fridays the main complex is closed to tourists, which means the classic sunrise and sunset view from Mehtab Bagh, the garden across the Yamuna, shows you the Taj with an empty complex behind it, no crowds on the platform spoiling a long lens shot. We can deliberately place a Mehtab Bagh session on a Friday for exactly this, then shoot the inside of the complex on another day. No competitor photography itinerary uses the closure this way; we do.

Winter fog is a gamble. December and January mornings can gift you a dreamy misty Taj or grey you out entirely; we plan a second chance where the itinerary allows. Ask before shooting people. Bazaar and artisan portraits are wonderful with consent and awkward or exploitative without it; our guides broker the moment respectfully. Ignore the 'photographers' roaming inside the Taj. They can be pushy and it can be a scam; if you want a pro shoot we arrange a vetted one with the right permit, not a gate tout. We book the jeep at Amber, never the elephant, on welfare grounds, and the Maota Lake reflection shot does not need one anyway.
