Honest: on a food trip the best bites are not in the five-star hotel. What luxury culinary actually buys, and where the real food is. From Rs 120,000 pp.

In a Nutshell

Experience My India runs a private, food-led Golden Triangle at the five-star tier from Rs 120,000 per person (6-day, twin sharing, Rs 20,000 a day): five-star hotels including a night at the Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra, a guided Old Delhi food walk, a hands-on cooking class, and heritage tables chosen for the food, all with a food guide who eats these streets daily. Before you book, the thing the luxury end of this trade relies on you not thinking about: the best food on this circuit is not in the five-star hotel, and the luxury upsell can quietly move you away from it.

The two things 'luxury culinary' can mean

The food-led version (what we sell)The palace-and-fine-dining version
What it isFive-star hotels to sleep and recover; the eating happens out, on a guided Old Delhi food walk, a family cooking class, and heritage tables chosen for the foodPalace hotels and celebrity-chef or hosted-departure curation, where the hotel dining room is the centrepiece
Indicative costRs 20,000 per person per day, with the Oberoi Amarvilas and Esphahan includedRs 40,000 per person per day and up, or a hosted departure from about USD 9,995 per person
Where the best food isOn the street and in family kitchens, with a guide who eats there dailyOften inside the hotel, which is the safest food and rarely the best
The honest noteYou sleep in luxury and eat like a local; the trip is built around the food, not the lobbyGenuinely lovely and genuinely expensive. If the palace is the point, take it, and we will book it
Nobody says this on a food trip: the more you spend on the hotel, the further you can drift from the food. Ask what a 'luxury culinary' package actually feeds you, and where, before you pay, including from us. A page that promises fine dining and quietly means the hotel restaurant every night is selling you a word.

What the money genuinely buys on a food trip

Honestly, at this tier: A guide who eats these streets daily. This is the single biggest lever on both quality and safety, and it is the thing a self-planned crawl cannot match. It is what you are actually paying the premium for. Recovery. This trip involves a 3.5 to 4.5 hour drive to Agra and a 4 to 5 hour drive to Jaipur, monuments in the heat, and early starts. A proper pool, a quiet room and a good bed are worth more here than on most holidays. A safe base and reliable water. The single most trip-ruining thing in India is a stomach, and a dependable room and safe water in the car have real value on a food trip specifically. Diets handled properly. Vegetarian, vegan, Jain and gluten-free are the norm here and are planned around, not apologised for. A cooking class you use at home. Of all the food experiences, guests say the family cooking class is the one they use again.

What it does not buy, and cannot change

A private Old Delhi. The food lanes are crowded, and that is the experience, not a fault in it. Early timing helps; money does not empty them. Zero stomach risk. We lower it honestly, with the rules below and a guide who knows the stalls. No operator eliminates it, and anyone promising a risk-free street-food trip is not being straight. Better street food by spending more. The best kachori is the busy stall's, not the five-star kitchen's version of it. The hotel does not out-cook the street at the street's own dishes. The Taj on a Friday. Closed to tourists every Friday, at every price. We sequence it onto another day. A cheaper ticket. Entry is Rs 1,100 for foreign nationals and Rs 50 for Indians whether you arrive from a palace or a guesthouse. We print the fees rather than bury them. An elephant ride at Amber. We do not offer it at any tier, on welfare grounds. The jeep does the climb.

Eating the streets safely, which is the whole point

This is the honest section every food-tour page should have and almost none does. Street food is the best part of this trip, and you can eat it well without spending a day unwell, if you follow real rules rather than either bingeing blindly or retreating to a hotel buffet. Eat where it is busy and freshly cooked. High turnover means fresh food and hot oil; a stall with a queue of locals is safer than an empty tourist-facing one. Hot and cooked over raw and cold. A just-fried kachori or a griddle-hot chaat is low risk; pre-cut raw salads and room-temperature chutneys are the higher-risk items. Our guide steers you to the former. Water is the real culprit, not the food. Most trouble comes from water and ice, not the samosa. Stick to sealed or filtered water, skip ice of unknown origin, and you remove most of the risk. We carry safe water in the car. Ease in. A guided food walk on day two or three, not hour one, is deliberate; give your system a day or two before the biggest session. A guide who eats there daily is your filter. This is the single biggest safety and quality lever, and it is the information gain over a self-planned crawl. None of this means avoiding street food. It means eating it the way locals do, which is the whole point of the trip.

The one hotel table that earns it, and it is built in

One exception earns its own paragraph, because it is real and it is in the price. The Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra sits 600 metres from the Taj Mahal and is the only luxury hotel in Agra with unrestricted Taj views from every room, and its restaurant Esphahan serves genuinely excellent Mughal cuisine. This is the hotel table that earns its price, because the setting and the kitchen are both the point, and this tour includes a night at the Amarvilas with dinner at Esphahan. It is the one place where the hotel does buy you a better meal, so we build it in and say so plainly rather than implying it about every hotel on the trip. Everywhere else, the best food is still out on the street.

Day by day

Day by day itinerary (6 days, food-paced)

Airport pickup and hotel, then an easy first dinner. No heavy activity after a long-haul arrival; the eating starts gently.

Tier6-day7-dayForeign national (6-day)
Five-star (with the Amarvilas night)Rs 120,000Rs 140,000About Rs 122,600
Four-star, for comparisonRs 72,000Rs 84,000About Rs 74,600
We print the four-star line deliberately, and on a food trip it matters. The four-star trip eats the identical street food, does the same cooking class with the same family, and walks with the same food guide; the honest difference is the hotels, including whether you get the Amarvilas night and Esphahan. If the street food is all you came for, four-star sees it too. Further palace upgrades, such as Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, are quoted separately. The guided food walks and the cooking class are already inside the five-star number. Foreign nationals add roughly Rs 2,600 for the higher monument fees (Taj Rs 1,100 vs Rs 50, Agra Fort Rs 650 vs Rs 50, Fatehpur Sikri about Rs 610 vs Rs 50, Amber Rs 500 vs Rs 100). Foreigners also pay a Rs 500 ADA toll at Agra, shared across Agra monuments the same day and waived on Fridays. OCI cardholders pay Indian rates with the physical card; under-15s enter the Taj free. Single supplement per day.

Our promise

Why choose Experience My India for a food trip

1
We take you out to the food. The five-star is for sleeping and recovering, not for the best eating, and we say so rather than pointing you at the hotel buffet.
2
A food guide who eats these streets daily, which is the real safety and quality lever, and the thing the premium actually buys.
3
We print the four-star price beside the five-star one, because on a food trip the plate is identical and only the hotel differs.
4
Honest street-food safety, with real rules, rather than the two lazy extremes of pretending there is no risk or scaring you onto a buffet.
5
Diets built in, vegetarian, vegan, Jain and gluten-free planned around properly.
6
Jeep at Amber, never the elephant, on welfare grounds, and real monument fees on the page rather than inside a bundle.

Honest note

This trip is NOT for you if

  • You will only eat hotel food. The value here is local and street eating; if you want international menus every night, a standard luxury tour serves you better.
  • You think a pricier hotel means better food. It does not. The best dish is the busy stall's, and the four-star eats it too.
  • You have a severe, unmanaged food allergy and expect zero risk. We manage diets carefully, but street and small-kitchen settings cannot guarantee allergen-free; tell us the severity honestly so we can plan safely or advise against certain elements.
  • You want palace hotels every night. This tour includes one Oberoi Amarvilas night and dinner at Esphahan; a palace-every-night trip is a different, pricier tier we will quote honestly.
  • You want the elephant ride at Amber. We do not offer it at any tier, on welfare grounds.
  • You cannot handle any spice at all and will not let us adjust. Rajasthani food is genuinely fiery; we can dial it, but some authenticity comes with heat.

Preparation

Before you go

🎒Packing List

  1. 1.Come hungry and pace yourself. A food trip fails when you overeat on day one; we space the big sessions on purpose.
  2. 2.Tell us your diet and real spice tolerance up front; it shapes every meal choice.
  3. 3.Drink sealed or filtered water only and skip unknown ice; it is the single biggest illness-avoidance step.
  4. 4.Book the Taj for a non-Friday and go at sunrise; that is the real luxury here, and it is free.
  5. 5.The Amarvilas and Esphahan night is built in; if you love it, ask us about a second night rather than upgrading the other hotels.
  6. 6.Cancellation follows our house slabs: 80 percent refunded more than 30 days out, 50 percent at 7 to 30 days, none under 7 days. Palace hotels may carry stricter terms, disclosed in your quote.
