Either way, plan for around two hours, though Delhi's city traffic can add to this at busy times, so allow a comfortable margin, particularly if you are catching a flight and cannot afford to be late. As a rule of thumb, give yourself well over two hours from central Delhi to be safe.

What is the best route from Delhi to Jewar Airport?

The best route from most of Delhi uses the Yamuna Expressway, reached via the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, running southeast out of the city and across the NCR towards Jewar, where the new airport sits. The exact best route depends on which part of Delhi you start from, north, central or south, but the expressways carry you most of the way on fast, access-controlled roads once you are clear of the city.

The main variable is Delhi's own city traffic at the start of the journey, which can add considerable time, especially in the morning and evening rush hours or when crossing the river into Noida. Once you are on the expressways, the going is quick and smooth, so the bulk of the journey is easy and predictable; it is the city stretch that needs a little planning and a sensible margin of extra time. A driver who knows the best way out of your part of Delhi makes a real difference here.

About Noida International Airport at Jewar

Noida International Airport, at Jewar in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, is the new second major airport for the Delhi National Capital Region, with the airport code DXN. Here is where it stands:

  • Now open for domestic flights: the airport's first phase was formally inaugurated in March 2026 and commercial domestic flights began in June 2026, connecting Jewar with a growing list of cities across India, from Mumbai and Bengaluru to Jaipur and Varanasi.

  • International flights beginning: international operations were expected to begin around September 2026, so the airport is quickly growing into a full international gateway. As this is very recent, check the latest schedules.

  • Its location: the airport sits at Jewar, southeast of the main NCR built-up area, reached via the Yamuna Expressway, which places it noticeably further from central Delhi than the older Indira Gandhi International Airport in the city.

  • Built to ease Delhi's airport: it was built partly to relieve pressure on Delhi's busy main airport and to serve western Uttar Pradesh, Noida and Greater Noida directly.

  • A growing hub: the first phase handles around 12 million passengers a year, with the airport designed to expand greatly over the coming years towards tens of millions.

As a brand-new and rapidly developing airport, its flights, routes and connections are changing quickly, month by month, so always check the current schedules and travel options when planning, rather than relying on older information. This is one situation where the very latest details matter.

How far is Jewar Airport from central Delhi?

It is important to understand that Jewar Airport is significantly further from central Delhi than the city's main Indira Gandhi International Airport. While the older airport sits within the city, only a short drive from central and south Delhi, Jewar is about 90 to 96 km and around two hours away by road, out towards Greater Noida and beyond, on the far side of the NCR.

This means that if you are flying from Jewar or arriving there and heading into Delhi, you should factor in a solid two-hour transfer, plus a margin for city traffic, when planning your timings. It is well worth double-checking which airport your flight actually uses when you book, as the two are on opposite sides of the region and allowing enough time for the journey, especially for an early-morning departure when you must leave the city well before dawn. For travellers to and from the southeast of the NCR, Noida and Greater Noida, however, Jewar is far more convenient than the old airport and for those heading to Agra it is actually the closer of the two.

Jewar Airport or Delhi Airport: which should you use?

For now, Delhi effectively has two very different airport options and it is worth knowing which one suits your trip before you book or set out. Delhi's main Indira Gandhi International Airport, in the west of the city, remains the far larger hub, close to central and south Delhi and served directly by the airport express metro and it handles the great majority of flights, including almost all international ones. Jewar's Noida International Airport, in the southeast towards Greater Noida, is newer and smaller for now, but growing fast and set to take on more and more traffic.

If your flight uses Jewar or you have a choice of airport, the key factors are where you are staying or heading and how far you want to travel to reach the terminal. For central or west Delhi, the old airport is much closer and simpler; for Noida, Greater Noida, the southeast NCR or for Agra and the Taj, Jewar is more convenient and can save a long cross-city drive. The most important thing is simply to confirm which airport your ticket is for, since the two are around two hours apart and to plan your transfer accordingly. Booking the wrong assumption into your day, expecting a quick hop to a city airport when your flight is actually from Jewar, is an easy and stressful mistake to make, so it is well worth a moment to check before you travel.

How to travel between Delhi and Jewar Airport

For now and until the planned rail links open, the main way to travel between Delhi and Jewar Airport is by road:

  • Private car or taxi: the most comfortable and reliable option, giving you a direct, door-to-door journey and letting you plan around the traffic, with no changes or waiting. This is what we recommend and arrange for our travellers, especially with luggage or an early flight.

  • The drive: mostly on the Yamuna Expressway and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, which are fast and smooth once you are on them, with the initial city stretch through Delhi the main variable.

  • Buses and app cabs: airport and app-based cab services operate to the new airport and bus links are developing, though for most travellers a booked car is the easiest choice at this stage.

  • Future links: a metro line and a rapid rail link are planned to connect the airport towards Greater Noida and Delhi, along with a dedicated road corridor, but until these open, road remains the way in.

We can arrange a comfortable vehicle and driver for your Delhi to Jewar transfer, timed around your flight and the traffic, so your journey is smooth and stress-free and you are not left worrying about transport to an unfamiliar, out-of-town airport.

Combining Jewar Airport with a Golden Triangle trip

Jewar Airport is a useful gateway not just to Delhi, but to the wider Golden Triangle:

  • On to Agra and the Taj: the airport is even closer to Agra than to central Delhi, at about two and a quarter hours down the Yamuna Expressway, as our Noida/Jewar Airport to Agra distance guide describes, so many travellers skip Delhi at first and head straight for the Taj, then loop back.

  • Delhi sightseeing: if you are starting in Delhi, our things to do in Delhi guide the capital's highlights, from the Red Fort to Humayun's Tomb and our places to eat in Delhi guide the best food, before you continue to Agra and Jaipur.

  • A future high-speed link: Jewar is also set to be a station on the proposed Delhi-Varanasi high-speed corridor, as our Delhi to Varanasi bullet train guide describes, which would connect the airport by rail in the future and cut journey times further.

For a trip that includes the Taj, our things to do in Agra guide helps you plan the Agra leg, so you can arrive at Jewar and step almost straight into a well-organised Golden Triangle, with Delhi, Agra and Jaipur all sorted around your flights and the airport transfer handled from the moment you land.

Travel tips for Delhi to Jewar Airport

  • Allow about two hours, plus a generous margin for Delhi's city traffic, especially for departures.

  • Double-check which airport your flight uses, as Jewar is far from Delhi's main airport.

  • Take a private car or taxi, the most reliable option for now.

  • Use the expressways, which are fast once you are clear of the city.

  • Consider heading straight to Agra from Jewar if the Taj is your main goal.

  • Watch for new metro and rail links, which will improve access in time.

  • Book your transfer in advance, so a driver is waiting whichever way you travel.
