Haridwar, versus Rishikesh
| Haridwar | Rishikesh | |
|---|---|---|
| The register | Intense devotional pilgrimage, crowded and charged | Yoga, wellness and adventure, calmer and traveller-friendly |
| The Ganga moment | The evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri, a devotional crush | The softer Parmarth Niketan aarti, and the cold clear river for rafting |
| The feel | Bells, lamps, pilgrims, ritual, energy | Suspension bridges, riverside cafes, ashrams, the Beatles Ashram, quiet |
| Best for | Seeing living Hindu devotion up close | A few restful, or active, days by the mountains |
| The honest caveat | Powerful, but a serious crowd; arrive early and stand slightly back | The "retreat" can be a tourist and party scene at the wrong spot |

Why choose Experience My India for Rishikesh and Haridwar
Honest note
This trip is NOT for you if
- You want one calm, uniform spiritual retreat. Haridwar is intense and crowded; the calm is Rishikesh, and we are honest about the difference.
- You cannot do without alcohol or meat for a couple of days. Both cities are holy and largely dry and vegetarian.
- You want the aarti to yourselves. It is a large public ritual; the quiet is found off to the side and in Rishikesh.
- You are travelling in the deep monsoon and want to raft. The river closes in July and August; plan September to June for the active version.
- You want the elephant ride at Amber. We do not offer it at any tier, on welfare grounds.
Preparation
Before you go

- 4.Pack modestly for temples and ashrams, and expect vegetarian, alcohol-free days.
- 5.Plan rafting for September to June; the monsoon closes the river.
- 6.Book the Taj for a non-Friday and go at sunrise, then let the foothills be the slow part.

Questions
FAQ
Are Rishikesh and Haridwar the same kind of place?
No, and that is the key thing. Haridwar is intense, crowded devotional pilgrimage, centred on the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri. Rishikesh, twenty kilometres away, is the calmer yoga, wellness and adventure town where the pace finally drops. We do Haridwar first and Rishikesh second so the trip flows from devotion into calm.
