The honest summary: the Gatimaan is the most comfortable same-day option and beats the car on stress and predictability, but it cannot give you the sunrise Taj, and it cannot fit Fatehpur Sikri. If either of those is the point, take the car for the day or, better, stay a night. If comfort and a clean, efficient day are what you want, the train is excellent.

Between the 09:50 arrival and the 17:50 train, you have about eight hours in Agra, which realistically means six to seven hours of sightseeing after transfers and lunch. That is genuinely enough for the two things that matter most: The Taj Mahal, at a mid-morning pace, with two to three hours to see it properly rather than rush. Agra Fort, the red-sandstone Mughal seat, about ninety minutes. Lunch, unhurried, at a good restaurant. Optionally the Baby Taj (Itimad-ud-Daulah), the marble jewel-box that is the Taj's draft, if time and energy allow. It does not hold Fatehpur Sikri, forty kilometres the wrong way, and it does not hold a slow, wandering pace. It is a full, efficient, comfortable day, and we plan it so it feels balanced rather than rushed.

We put this in its own section because it is the single most common disappointment. The sunrise Taj, the marble turning pink and gold at dawn with thin crowds, is real, and it is genuinely the best way to see it, but the Gatimaan Express cannot deliver it, because it arrives at 09:50. By the time you reach the gate it is mid-morning, warmer and busier. That is a fine way to see the Taj, and most people are very happy with it, but if the dawn image is what you are booking for, only the car (a very early start) or an overnight will get you there. We would rather tell you now than have you realise it on the platform.

A quiet honesty point that changes your day. Many same-day Agra trips are padded with visits to marble-handicraft "factories" and emporiums, where the guide or driver earns a commission and you lose an hour of your short window. We do not do that. Your day is the monuments, lunch and the train, and if you want to shop, we will point you to Agra's real markets in your own time rather than steer you to a paying showroom. On a day this tightly timed, that saved hour is the difference between rushed and relaxed.

07:30, Delhi: pickup. Our representative collects you from your Delhi hotel and transfers you to Hazrat Nizamuddin station, with your ticket and seat arranged. 08:10, the train. Board the Gatimaan Express in your chosen class. Breakfast is served on board. The 188 km to Agra takes about 100 minutes at up to 160 km/h, with no traffic and no stress. 09:50, Agra: the Taj. Met at Agra Cantt and driven to the Taj Mahal, entering by about 10:30 with your ticket pre-booked to skip the queue. Two to three hours with a licensed guide to see it properly. Around 13:00, lunch and Agra Fort. An unhurried lunch, then Agra Fort, the Mughal seat and the place Shah Jahan was later imprisoned with a view of the Taj. About ninety minutes. Mid-afternoon, optional Baby Taj. If time and energy allow, the Itimad-ud-Daulah, the marble draft of the Taj, before heading to the station. 17:50, the return train. Board the Gatimaan back to Delhi, dinner served on board, arriving Hazrat Nizamuddin at 19:30, where our driver transfers you to your hotel. The whole day flexes to the fixed train times, so the plan is built around them rather than against them.

The Gatimaan fare itself is roughly Rs 860 to 1,125 in chair car and Rs 1,690 to 2,280 in executive class, with catering included. The big swing is monument entry: a foreign national pays about Rs 1,750 for the Taj and Agra Fort together, an Indian national about Rs 100, so the same tour is priced very differently for each and we quote yours exactly.
