Quick Answer
With 2 days in Jaipur, spend the first on the Amber forts, the hilltop Amber Fort, Jaigarh, Nahargarh for sunset and the Jal Mahal water palace and the second in the walled Pink City, seeing the City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, the Albert Hall Museum and the bazaars. Two days is enough to cover Jaipur's highlights.
two days is the ideal amount of time to see the best of Jaipur and the neatest way to split them is by geography: give day one to the magnificent forts in the Aravalli hills to the north and day two to the palaces, observatory and bazaars packed inside the walled Pink City. That way you never crisscross the city, you catch the forts in the cool morning and you end each day well, with a sunset over the city and an evening in the bazaars. Below are the exact places to visit across your two days.
I was born in Delhi and in 11 years guiding the Pink City for Experience My India I have found that two days, well organised, cover Jaipur beautifully. The secret is doing the hill forts on one day and the walled city on the other, rather than mixing them and losing time in traffic. Here are the places to visit in Jaipur across two days, what each one is and when to go, plus how to plan it. See all our Delhi Agra Tour Package or message on WhatsApp at +91 7302265809, any day from 8 AM to 9 PM.

Day 1: The Amber forts and the north
Amber Fort
Start with the jewel of Jaipur, the Amber Fort, a magnificent hilltop fort-palace of honey-coloured sandstone and marble overlooking Maota Lake. Go at opening, around eight, to beat the heat and the crowds and give it two to three hours: the Ganesh Pol gateway, the mirrored Sheesh Mahal, the pillared halls and the sweeping ramparts are all unmissable. It is the single most impressive sight in the city.
Jaigarh Fort
Above Amber, connected by a road and old passageways, stands the rugged Jaigarh Fort, built to defend it. Its highlight is Jaivana, once the largest cannon on wheels in the world, along with vast water tanks, an armoury and some of the best views over the Amber complex and the hills. Half an hour to an hour is plenty.
Nahargarh Fort
Perched on the Aravalli ridge above the city, Nahargarh Fort is where you end day one, timed for sunset. The views over the whole of Jaipur spread out below are the finest in the city, especially as the lights come on and there is a cafe to sit with a drink. It is the perfect romantic close to a day of forts.
Jal Mahal and Panna Meena ka Kund
Between the city and Amber, the Jal Mahal, a low palace that appears to float in the middle of Man Sagar lake, is a lovely photo stop, best in the morning light on your way up or the golden light coming down. Near Amber, the geometric Panna Meena ka Kund stepwell is a quick, photogenic detour if you have time.
Day 2: The walled Pink City
City Palace
Begin day two in the heart of the walled city at the City Palace, still partly home to Jaipur's royal family, a layered complex of courtyards, museums and the famous painted seasonal doorways. Check the City Palace Jaipur timings and note it has its own ticket, separate from the composite ticket. Give it two to three hours.
Hawa Mahal
A short walk away is the Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds, the five-storey pink honeycomb facade that is Jaipur's icon, built so royal ladies could watch the street unseen. See it from the front early in the morning when the rising sun lights up its hundreds of windows and climb inside for the views and the breeze it is named for.
Jantar Mantar
Beside the City Palace lies Jantar Mantar, the extraordinary open-air observatory of giant stone instruments built by the astronomer-king Sawai Jai Singh II, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The instruments still work, including the world's largest stone sundial and a guide brings them to life. Allow about an hour.
Albert Hall Museum and Birla Mandir
In the Ram Niwas Garden just outside the walls stands the grand Albert Hall Museum, Rajasthan's oldest, beautiful floodlit at night. If you have an evening free, the white marble Birla Mandir temple is lovely after dark. Both are optional extras that round out day two.
The bazaars
End in the famous bazaars of the old city: Johari Bazaar for jewellery, Bapu Bazaar for textiles and juttis and Tripolia Bazaar for lac bangles and brassware. This is where Jaipur's colour and energy are at their best and where you shop for the block-printed cloth, gemstones and handicrafts the city is known for.
How to plan your 2 days in Jaipur
Two practical things make a two-day trip run smoothly. First, buy the Jaipur composite ticket at your first monument, since it covers Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh and the Albert Hall Museum on one ticket valid for two days, ideal for exactly this trip; the City Palace is separate. Second, keep the order geographic, forts on day one and the walled city on day two, as above. For a detailed hour-by-hour plan, see our Jaipur itinerary 2-3 days and for the weather, our guide to the best time to visit Jaipur, which is October to March.
Where to eat and stay
Do not leave without trying Jaipur's food: a Rawat onion kachori, thali at the famous LMB in Johari Bazaar, a creamy lassi and, for a memorable evening, the village-style feast at Chokhi Dhani. For where to base yourself, from palace hotels to heritage havelis, see our guide to where to stay in Jaipur. Staying in or near the walled city keeps day two within easy reach.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions
Yes. Two days comfortably cover Jaipur's highlights if you split them by area, the Amber hill forts on day one and the walled Pink City on day two. A third day lets you slow down or add a day trip.
Amber Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort and Jal Mahal on day one; the City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Albert Hall Museum and the bazaars on day two.
Keep the days geographic: the forts in the northern hills on day one, ending with sunset at Nahargarh and the walled city palaces, observatory and bazaars on day two. It avoids crisscrossing the city.
The Amber Fort at opening, then Jaigarh Fort above it, the Jal Mahal water palace and Nahargarh Fort for sunset over the city. Day one is all about the hill forts to the north.
