Experience My India bolts a genuine adventure leg onto the Delhi, Agra and Jaipur circuit, from Rs 80,000 per person (8-day, 4 star, twin sharing), by adding Rishikesh: white water on the Ganga, a riverside camp, and the Himalayan foothills, about 5 to 6 hours from Delhi. Our Adventure hub says plainly that the circuit itself is heritage with add-ons rather than an adventure destination. This is the page where we fix that, honestly. Two things worth knowing before you plan. First, the good news, and it is genuinely good: the seasons line up. October is both the circuit's best month and the single best rafting month on the Ganga, so a well-timed trip gets both at their peak rather than forcing a compromise. Second, the hard rule: rafting is closed by law from 1 July to about 15 September, and no amount of budget changes that. And if you were thinking of Ladakh, we will be straight with you below: it is not an extension, it is a second holiday.

Rafting on the Ganga at Rishikesh is officially closed from 1 July to around 15 September, and this is a safety regulation rather than an operator preference. During the monsoon the river can rise by 10 to 20 feet, the current becomes unpredictable, debris and logs come down with it, and rescue is effectively impossible. The closure is mandated and enforced. So: if anyone offers to put you on the Ganga in July or August, walk away. Sources in the trade are blunt about not seeking out operators willing to run during the closure, and we will not book one, arrange one, or look the other way while you find one. If your dates fall inside the closure, we will tell you and build the trip around something that is actually open.

This is the part that usually surprises people. The Golden Triangle's own window is October to March, and the river's calendar overlaps it almost perfectly: October is the best month for both. Post-monsoon water is high and powerful, the weather is clear and stable, and the circuit is at its best at the same time. If you can travel in October, take it. March and April suit beginners and families: pleasant temperatures, manageable rapids, and still firmly inside the circuit's good season. May is the biggest water, driven by Himalayan snowmelt, and the biggest crowds, and it is hot on the plains. Thrill-seekers only. Winter (December to February) runs in neoprene wetsuits: cold water, quiet river, and the circuit's coolest, clearest weather. 1 July to mid-September: closed. Nothing to plan around. You do not have to choose between the monuments and the river. You just have to pick the month properly.

Grades run II to IV on the usual stretches. Tell us your honest experience level, not your aspirational one, and we will book the right run rather than the most impressive-sounding one.

People ask for Ladakh as an add-on because the photographs are extraordinary. It does not work as one. Leh sits at roughly 3,500 metres, and the standard advice on arrival is to take the first day slowly and let your body acclimatise, because altitude is not negotiable and does not care about your itinerary. That means a flight, plus acclimatisation days, plus the actual trip: two weeks, not a bolt-on, and a season that runs opposite to the circuit's. The honest version: Rishikesh is an extension. Ladakh is a second holiday. If you have the fortnight, we will happily plan both properly. If you have 8 days, take the river.

Foreign nationals add about Rs 2,665 for the higher monument fees (Taj Rs 1,100 vs Rs 50, Agra Fort Rs 650 vs Rs 45, Fatehpur Sikri Rs 610 vs Rs 50, Amber Rs 550 vs Rs 100). OCI cardholders pay Indian rates with the physical card; under-15s enter the Taj free. Rafting is charged on top at the operator's rate, which varies by stretch and season.
