Family Crafts Golden Triangle | Experience My India
Honest: most craft stops pay your driver commission. Bagru uses natural dyes, Sanganer does not, and a child can spot fake blue pottery. From Rs 70,000.
In a Nutshell
“Experience My India builds the making-things version of the circuit, from Rs 70,000 per person (7-day, 4 star, twin sharing), children under 5 free and 5 to 11 at half price. Start with the thing the whole industry knows and nobody prints.”
At a glance
Quick facts
Price from
Rs 70,000 per person (7-day, 4 star). Under 5 free, 5 to 11 half price
The commission problem
Travellers report drivers taking them where they get paid. We take none
Bagru
Natural dyes. Turmeric, indigo, madder, and mud-resist 'dabu'
Sanganer
White base, fine floral calico printing. Not natural dyes
Traveller verdict
'Pick Bagru.' Natural dyes, and you meet the people making it
Where
Bagru is about 30 km from Jaipur. A working village, not a showroom
Blue pottery
A Jaipur speciality with a GI tag. Contains no clay
The child's test
Hold it to the light. Real glaze is translucent; edges are irregular
Price at source
Block-printed cotton reported at Rs 100 to 275 a metre
Also in Sanganer
Kagzi, handmade paper from cotton rags, used for miniature painting
Amber Fort
Jeep ascent, never the elephant, on welfare grounds
How to tell a workshop from a shop
Bagru and Sanganer are not two names for the same thing
The blue pottery test, which your eight-year-old can run
What you can actually buy, and what it should cost
Day by day
Day by day itinerary (7 days)
Arrival and hotel. Nothing scheduled. Overnight Delhi.

Our promise
Why choose Experience My India for the crafts trip
Honest note
This trip is NOT for you if
- You want the big emporium. They are comfortable, air-conditioned, and priced for the commission they pay out. We will drive you past.
- You want a guaranteed bargain. We can tell you the price at source. We cannot make anybody sell to you at it.
- Your children will not touch anything. The whole trip is built on them making something and getting dye on their hands.
- You want certainty about provenance. Craft origin stories in Agra and Jaipur are mostly unverifiable, and we would rather say so than repeat them.
- You want the elephant ride at Amber. We do not offer it, on welfare grounds. Our kid-friendly page explains why.
Preparation
Before you go
🎒Packing List
- 1.Ask every operator what commission they take. Including us. The answer is the review.
- 2.Go to Bagru in the morning. Afternoon is a showroom; morning is a village.
- 3.Old clothes for the block printing. Natural dye does not care about your holiday wardrobe.
- 4.Teach the children the light test before you walk into the pottery studio.
- 5.Do not buy on the first day. See the price at source first, then decide.
- 6.Cancellation follows our house slabs: 80 percent refunded more than 30 days out, 50 percent at 7 to 30 days, none under 7 days.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do Golden Triangle tours get commission from craft shops?
Frequently, and travellers describe it openly. On public forums, visitors to Jaipur report that hired drivers consistently took them either to the workshops every tourist sees or to the ones where the driver earns commission, and someone in the trade responds that commission is a common fact around tourist destinations generally. The practical effect is that the price you are shown has the commission inside it. Ask any operator directly what they take. The willingness to answer is the answer.
