Experience My India builds the active honeymoon, from Rs 60,000 per person (6-day, 4 star, twin sharing), with the balloon and any river days quoted separately at the operators' real rates. Two things decide this trip, and the first one will save you an argument at 5 am. The dawn balloon over Jaipur is a shared balloon. The standard ticket, at USD 325 an adult, buys you a seat, and a balloon normally carries four to eight passengers. So the private sunrise flight in your head is you, your new spouse, and up to six strangers in a wicker basket. The operator does sell a private one: SkyWaltz lists Sky Visa as the shared safari and Sky Exclusive as the chartered one. Almost nobody books the second, because almost nobody knows the first is the default. Second: your wedding date decides whether this trip exists at all. Balloons in Jaipur fly from September to the end of April. The rafting season on the Ganga runs roughly mid-September to the end of June and is closed by regulation through the monsoon. A May, June, July or August honeymoon gets one of them or neither. Send us the date before the flights.

Two products, one obvious default. Sky Visa is the shared safari. Sky Exclusive is the charter. If 'just the two of us' is the point, name the second one; if you book the standard fare you are buying a seat, not a balloon. You cannot choose the route. SkyWaltz runs two flying areas around Jaipur, and the starting point changes each day depending on wind direction and speed, with the pilot choosing on the morning of the flight. Nobody can promise you a fort or a palace beneath you, and any operator who does is guessing with your money. It is about an hour in the air inside a morning of roughly three and a half to four hours, with hotel pickup and drop and refreshments at the launch site. Evening flights run too, depending on season, which very few people realise. You will need passport copies and photo ID for both of you, in advance. It is aviation, not a fairground ride. The operator is properly licensed, holding an Air Operator's Permit from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, with more than fifteen years and, by its own account, over 50,000 passengers flown. Everyone lands with a First Flight Certificate, which is a nicer souvenir than it sounds when it has both your names on it.

Say it out loud when you book. This is one of the few places on this circuit where the theatrical thing is actually available and actually done well: guests describe a mid-air banner and a post-landing celebration organised by the balloon crew. We will not improvise it. We will ask the operator, get it in writing, and tell you the price. What we will not do is take your money for a 'surprise' and hope.

Indian wedding season sits largely inside the good window, which is lucky rather than designed. But if your wedding is in May, or in the monsoon, we will tell you this trip is the wrong one for your dates rather than sell you a version of it with the adventure quietly removed.

Most adventure honeymoons are planned by the one of you who likes adventure. That is not a joke and it is the most common way this trip goes wrong. One of you wants the rapids, the other wants the spa and a book. Tell us both, separately if it helps. A good version of this week has genuine activity and genuine nothing in it, and the nothing is not a consolation prize. We would rather build two half-days than watch one of you endure the other's holiday. Also: do not put the adventure on day one. You have just had a wedding. You are more tired than you think.

Balloon: about USD 325 per adult, on top. We do not mark it up, and we will tell you what the charter costs rather than steer you to the shared seat because it is easier to book. Foreign nationals add about Rs 2,665 for the higher monument fees (Taj Rs 1,100 vs Rs 50, Agra Fort Rs 650 vs Rs 45, Fatehpur Sikri Rs 610 vs Rs 50, Amber Rs 550 vs Rs 100).
