Experience My India books the palace honeymoon honestly, from Rs 90,000 per person (6-day, heritage tier, twin sharing), with the landmark palaces quoted separately because they cost what they cost. One thing decides whether this trip is the one you are imagining, and it is not the hotel. It is the room category. Take Rambagh Palace, the benchmark. It has 79 rooms and suites, and they are not variations on a theme. They run from a Luxury Room at about 350 square feet on the top floor to a Grand Presidential Suite at about 1,800 square feet with a private terrace and its own dining room. That is five times the space, inside the same sentence: 'we stayed at Rambagh.' Two couples say it and had different holidays. And the detail that decides the fantasy: of those 79 rooms, the five Royal Suites are the ones described as having served as the personal chambers of the royal household. Five. If what you are picturing is sleeping where the Maharaja actually slept, that is a five-room lottery at the top of the price list, not a hotel booking.

What this table is for. When an operator sells you 'a night at Rambagh', ask which of those six things you are buying. The gap between the bottom and the top of that list is larger than the gap between most hotels.

Rambagh publishes a Palace Room, Garden View, Twin Bed. It is a real, bookable category, and it is the same price band as its four-poster twin sibling. So it is entirely possible to spend a great deal of money on a palace honeymoon and be shown into a room with two single beds, because nobody wrote the word 'king' on the booking. We confirm the bed configuration in writing at the time of booking, on every property, every time. It is the least romantic sentence on this page and it prevents one of the more memorable ways to start a marriage.

Take one palace night, not five. A honeymoon that puts every night in a landmark property spends its whole budget on rooms you will be asleep in. One night at Rambagh, done properly in a category you chose deliberately, is a better memory than six nights of upgraded sameness, and the difference buys a Taj-view room in Agra or an extra week. We will say this even though the five-night version earns us more. If you want the five-night version we will book it gladly and well. We would just rather you chose it than defaulted to it.

Published ranges put Rambagh at roughly Rs 25,000 to 95,000 a night depending entirely on which of those six categories you book, which is the whole argument of this page.
