Quick Answer
Jaipur to Ayodhya is about 743 to 789 km and around 12 hours 10 minutes by road via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, through Agra. It is best done by flight or overnight train, not a day trip. Delhi Agra Tour Packages, a unit of Experience My India, plans Ayodhya trips.
Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram and home of the magnificent Ram Mandir, has become one of India's most visited pilgrimage cities, and many travellers wish to reach it from Jaipur, the Pink City of Rajasthan. This guide from Delhi Agra Tour Packages covers the Jaipur to Ayodhya distance in both directions, the best road route, the fast flights and trains, the Ram Mandir darshan details, and how to plan your visit, often as part of a wider Golden Triangle and pilgrimage journey, and even a Golden Triangle tour extended east.
I was born in Delhi, and in more than 11 years arranging North India trips for Experience My India I have sent many pilgrims on to Ayodhya. Here is the clear, practical and honest guide.

How far is Jaipur to Ayodhya by road?
Jaipur to Ayodhya is about 743 to 789 km and takes roughly 12 hours 10 minutes by road, with a few route options.
Route | Distance | Drive time |
Via Agra-Lucknow Expressway | 751 km | 12 hr 10 min |
Via NH21 and Agra-Lucknow Expressway | 789 km | 15 hr 8 min |
Via Agra-Jaipur Road and Agra-Lucknow Expressway | 743 km | 12 hr 19 min |
The fastest route runs east from Jaipur through Agra, then along the Agra-Lucknow Expressway toward Lucknow and Ayodhya, but at over 740 km it is a very long haul.
How far is Ayodhya to Jaipur by road?
Ayodhya to Jaipur is about 729 to 765 km, taking a similar time in reverse.
Route | Distance | Drive time |
Via Agra-Lucknow Expressway and NH21 | 738 km | 11 hr 14 min |

What is the best route from Jaipur to Ayodhya?
The quickest route runs east from Jaipur, first to Agra, then along the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to Lucknow, and on toward Ayodhya. This chain of modern, access-controlled expressways is what makes the long drive manageable, replacing what was once a much slower journey on ordinary highways.
Even so, at over 740 km it is one of the longer journeys across North India, so almost no one drives it in a single stretch. The route is best broken with an overnight stop, ideally at Agra or Lucknow, or, far better for most pilgrims, done by flight or overnight train.
Is Ayodhya a day trip from Jaipur?
No, it is far too far for a day trip. At over 740 km and around twelve hours each way by road, a Jaipur to Ayodhya day trip is simply not practical, and even a there-and-back road journey would take several days. Ayodhya is a destination to reach by flight or train, or to fold into a longer, one-way pilgrimage and Golden Triangle itinerary.
The natural way to visit from Jaipur is as part of a bigger journey: see Jaipur as a Golden Triangle city, then continue east, via Agra, to Ayodhya by flight or train for the pilgrimage, rather than treating it as a simple return trip. Thought of this way, the long distance becomes the arc of a memorable trip rather than an obstacle.
Can you fly from Jaipur to Ayodhya?
Yes, and flying is by far the fastest and most convenient way. Ayodhya's Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, about 10 to 12 km from the temple, is served by flights that connect it to major cities, with direct or connecting services from Jaipur, usually via Delhi, taking roughly 1.5 to 2 hours in the air. This has transformed access to the holy city since the airport opened.
For most pilgrims from Jaipur, especially those with limited time, flying is the natural choice, far quicker than the twelve-hour drive, letting you reach the Ram Mandir with ease. If there is no direct flight on your dates, an easy connection through Delhi still gets you there in a fraction of the time it takes by road, and it frees your trip for the pilgrimage rather than a long transfer.
Is there a train from Jaipur to Ayodhya?
Yes. Ayodhya is well connected by rail, and the Ayodhya Dham Junction station is only about 2 km from the Ram Mandir, wonderfully convenient. Trains connect Jaipur to Ayodhya, most of them overnight, taking roughly fifteen to seventeen hours depending on the service, so you can sleep through the long journey and arrive for a morning darshan.
The train is a comfortable and affordable option, and with the station so close to the temple, it is popular with pilgrims. Booking a berth ahead is wise, and essential around festivals, when demand is enormous.
The Golden Triangle and Ayodhya
What makes the Jaipur to Ayodhya journey rewarding is how it fits into a wider trip. Because the route east from Jaipur passes through Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, it slots naturally onto the end of a Golden Triangle circuit, taking you from the forts and palaces of Rajasthan to the sacred city of Lord Ram.
A wonderful plan is to travel Delhi, Agra and Jaipur as the Golden Triangle over several days, then continue to Ayodhya, and often on to Varanasi, for a spiritual finale, taking you from Mughal splendour to the sacred cities of the Hindu heartland in one grand arc. This one-way structure, rather than a return trip, is the sensible way to link two places so far apart, and it turns a long transfer into the natural shape of a great itinerary. Our things to do in Agra guide covers the Taj city on the way, and our Agra to Ayodhya distance guide covers the leg from Agra in detail.
Where is Ayodhya and the Ram Mandir?
Ayodhya sits on the banks of the sacred Saryu river in Uttar Pradesh, and it is revered as the birthplace of Lord Ram, one of Hinduism's most beloved deities and the hero of the Ramayana. For centuries it has been counted among the seven holiest cities in Hindu tradition, and today it is experiencing a remarkable revival. The magnificent Ram Mandir, built at the Ram Janmabhoomi, the believed birthplace, was consecrated in a historic ceremony in early 2024 and has since drawn millions of devotees, making Ayodhya one of India's foremost pilgrimage cities.
Beyond the grand temple, built in the traditional Nagara style in richly carved pink sandstone, the whole city has been transformed, with a new international airport, a redeveloped railway station, wide roads and a beautified riverfront, all built to welcome the huge numbers of visitors. Work on the wider complex and the city's facilities continues, so parts are still developing. It is a place of deep faith and fresh energy, and a genuinely moving destination for pilgrims and travellers alike, well worth the long journey from Jaipur.
Ram Mandir darshan: timings and important advice
Darshan at the Ram Mandir is open through the day, typically in a morning and an evening session, and the exact timings shift a little by season, so reconfirm before you visit. Special aartis take place at set times, and these can be attended with a pass.
Here is the most important advice, which we give clearly for your protection, because any major pilgrimage attracts those looking to profit from the faithful:
Darshan is free: entry for regular darshan at the Ram Mandir is free of charge. You do not need to pay anyone for ordinary darshan.
Official aarti passes only: passes for the aartis are issued only through the official temple trust channels, such as the official Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra website. Book only there.
Beware of scams: ignore anyone offering paid darshan, VIP entry or tickets for a fee outside the official system, as these are not genuine. Do not fall for touts.
Travel light: phones, bags and many items are not allowed inside, with facilities to deposit them, so carry as little as possible.
Expect queues: on busy days and festivals the darshan line can be very long, so arrive early and allow time.
Following the official channels keeps your visit smooth, safe and free of the touts that gather around any major pilgrimage.
Other places to visit in Ayodhya
Ayodhya has much more to offer the devout visitor beyond the main temple:
Hanuman Garhi: the hilltop temple of Lord Hanuman, a hugely important and much-loved stop, traditionally visited before the Ram Mandir.
Kanak Bhawan: a beautiful temple dedicated to Ram and Sita, rich in gold ornamentation.
Ram Ki Paidi: the series of ghats on the Saryu, beautiful at sunset and for the evening Saryu Aarti.
The Saryu Aarti: the riverside fire ceremony, a serene and moving experience.
Dashrath Mahal and other temples: the many shrines that fill this ancient temple town.
Note that Ayodhya is a holy city where vegetarian food is the norm and alcohol is best avoided, in keeping with its sacred character.
When is the best time to visit Ayodhya?
The best time to visit Ayodhya is October to March, when the weather is pleasant for temple visits and walking the city. Two festivals are especially spectacular: Ram Navami, marking Lord Ram's birth, usually in March or April, and Deepotsav around Diwali, when Ayodhya lights up with lakhs of lamps along the Saryu in a breathtaking display, though both bring enormous crowds.
Summers, from April to June, are very hot in both Jaipur and Ayodhya, so plan for early mornings and evenings and carry water. The monsoon brings a fuller Saryu and a fresh, green calm, a quieter time between the big festivals. Whenever you visit, an early start for darshan beats both the heat and the longest queues, and giving Ayodhya a full day or two lets you see the riverside temples and the evening Saryu Aarti properly rather than rushing through after the long journey.
Combining Jaipur and Ayodhya with your trip
Jaipur to Ayodhya works best as part of a grand North India journey. Since Jaipur is a Golden Triangle city and the route runs through Agra, the natural itinerary is Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, then east to Ayodhya and often Varanasi for a pilgrimage finale. Use our things to do in Jaipur guide to enjoy the Pink City, and if you are also exploring Rajasthan, our Jaipur to Udaipur distance guide covers the City of Lakes.
For the wider pilgrimage, our Jaipur to Varanasi distance guide covers the onward leg to the Ganga, and travellers from the capital can use our Delhi to Ayodhya distance guide. We can build the whole circuit, from the forts of Rajasthan to the temples of Ayodhya, within our Delhi Agra Tour Packages.
