No, there is no direct Namo Bharat train from Delhi to Rishikesh yet. The Namo Bharat RRTS currently runs only between Delhi and Meerut, and the extension towards Rishikesh is at the planning stage, so for now you cannot travel the whole way on it.

The good news is that the extension has official in-principle approval and its detailed project report is being prepared, so a direct high-speed link is genuinely on the horizon. Until then, this guide covers both the current network and the best ways to reach Rishikesh today.

What is the Namo Bharat RRTS?

The Namo Bharat is India's Regional Rapid Transit System, a semi-high-speed rail network built for fast travel across the wider National Capital Region. The full Delhi to Meerut Namo Bharat corridor is now operational, running from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut. It has transformed travel along this route, turning a slow highway drive into a swift, smooth ride.

• Route: Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, via Anand Vihar and Ghaziabad.

• Speed: trains run at up to about 160 km/h.

• Connections: Sarai Kale Khan links to the Delhi Metro Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station and the ISBT.

• What it means: Meerut is now the springboard for any onward journey towards Uttarakhand.

The proposed Meerut to Haridwar and Rishikesh extension

This is the development everyone is watching. The proposed extension would carry the Namo Bharat from Modipuram, the current Meerut terminus, onward to Rishikesh.

• Length: about 150 km, from Modipuram through Roorkee and Haridwar to Rishikesh.

• Status: it has received in-principle approval, and the detailed project report is being prepared to finalise the route, stations and cost.

• Journey time: once built, Delhi to Rishikesh could take about 2.5 to 3 hours, down from the current five to six hours by road.

• Direct travel: passengers would be able to ride from Rishikesh straight through to Sarai Kale Khan without changing trains.

It is a genuinely exciting prospect for pilgrims, weekend travellers and business visitors alike, but it is still a plan, not a timetable, so treat any completion date with caution until construction is confirmed.

How do you get from Delhi to Rishikesh right now?
