The best places to eat in Jaipur range from the pyaaz kachori of Rawat and the Rajasthani thali of LMB to the street food of Masala Chowk, the restaurants of MI Road, the cafes of C-Scheme and the village-resort experience of Chokhi Dhani. Delhi Agra Tour Packages, a unit of Experience My India, plans Jaipur food experiences.

Jaipur is a feast for the senses and its food is every bit as rich as its palaces and bazaars, from fiery Rajasthani thalis and legendary kachoris to buzzing street-food courts and royal fine dining. The Pink City has become one of India's great food destinations, where you can eat a plate of hot kachoris on a bustling street corner in the morning and dine like a maharaja in a palace by night. Knowing where to eat turns a Jaipur trip into a proper culinary adventure. This guide from Delhi Agra Tour Packages covers the best places and areas to eat in Jaipur and pairs perfectly with a Golden Triangle tour. For the dishes to look out for, see our famous foods in Jaipur guide and use this one to decide where to find them.

I was born in Delhi and in more than 11 years guiding the Golden Triangle for Experience My India I have eaten my way across Jaipur many times over, from its humblest kachori stalls to its grandest palace dining rooms. Here is the clear, practical and honest guide.

MI Road: the main restaurant strip

MI Road or Mirza Ismail Road, is Jaipur's central commercial artery and its main dining strip, lined with restaurants, sweet shops and cafes for every budget and one of the easiest and most convenient places to eat in the city, close to the main sights and the bazaars.

  • Handi Restaurant: famous for its rich non-vegetarian dishes, above all the fiery laal maas and the slow-cooked handi murgh, a favourite for Rajasthani meat lovers, served in a warm, traditional setting.

  • Niros: a long-established, iconic multi-cuisine restaurant that has been a Jaipur classic for decades, serving reliable North Indian, Chinese and continental food to generations of locals and visitors.

  • Lassiwala: the legendary spot for thick, creamy, malai-topped lassi served in disposable earthenware cups, a Jaipur institution where you should look for the original shop among the imitators.

  • Falahaar and casual eateries: for the famous mirchi vada, the spicy chilli fritter stuffed with potato that is the Rajasthani street snack you did not know you needed, along with dozens of other budget and mid-range spots.

MI Road is the most convenient place for a reliable, central meal, with something for every taste and pocket, from a quick lassi to a full non-veg feast.

Johari Bazaar and the old city: street food and heritage

The lanes of the old walled city, especially Johari Bazaar, are the ground zero of Jaipur street food and home to its most famous heritage eatery. This is where you eat cheaply and incredibly well, amid the colour and bustle of the Pink City's bazaars.

  • Laxmi Mishthan Bhandar (LMB): established in 1727, this iconic pure-vegetarian restaurant and sweet shop in Johari Bazaar is a Jaipur legend, said to be one of the oldest of its kind in the state, celebrated for its classic Rajasthani thali, its paneer ghewar, its sweets and its sweet lassi, all served with old-world charm and efficient service.

  • Street food stalls: the bazaar lanes are full of samosa, kachori and chaat vendors, chai stalls and traditional sweet shops, many of them decades old, where just a few rupees buys you some of the very best food in the whole city.

  • Pandit Kulfi: near Hawa Mahal, famous for its dense, slow-churned kulfi in flavours like malai, kesar and paan, a perfect cooling treat while sightseeing.

Combining old-city shopping with street food here is a quintessential Jaipur experience and our Bapu Bazaar Jaipur guide covers the neighbouring market and its own food.

Rawat Mishthan Bhandar: the kachori legend

If there is one dish to eat in Jaipur, it is the pyaaz kachori, the crisp, flaky, onion-stuffed deep-fried pastry and if there is one place to eat it, it is Rawat Mishthan Bhandar.

  • Rawat Mishthan Bhandar: near Sindhi Camp and the railway station, this legendary sweet and snack shop is famous across India for its pyaaz kachori, along with excellent sweets, aloo tikki, mirchi vada and lassi. It is always busy from morning onwards and for good reason, so expect a queue and eat your kachori piping hot with a dab of chutney.

A hot Rawat kachori is one of the great tastes of the Pink City and a must for any food lover, whether as a breakfast, a snack or a takeaway box for the journey.

Masala Chowk: street food in one place

For the easiest introduction to Jaipur's street food, head to Masala Chowk, an open-air food court in the historic Ram Niwas Garden. Here, stalls from prominent vendors across the city gather in one clean, pleasant, well-managed space, so you can sample samosas, pav bhaji, golgappe, chaat, dosas, kachoris and sweets without hopping around town or worrying too much about hygiene.

It is a hugely popular spot with locals and visitors alike, especially in the evenings, when it buzzes with families and friends and it is a great, relaxed way to try a wide range of Jaipur street food in one sitting, all at very reasonable prices. It also features among the evening spots in our places to visit in Jaipur at night guide, so it makes a perfect end to a day's sightseeing.

Chokhi Dhani: a Rajasthani village experience

No food journey in Jaipur is complete without Chokhi Dhani, a themed Rajasthani village resort on Tonk Road, about 20 km south of the city. It is dinner as entertainment: a lovingly recreated village where you enjoy an unlimited traditional Rajasthani thali served on leaf plates, alongside folk music, dance, puppet shows, magicians, camel and elephant rides, craft stalls and more.

It is a wonderful, festive cultural evening, especially popular with families and first-time visitors who want the full Rajasthani experience in one place. It is a destination in itself rather than a casual meal, so plan a whole evening for it, expect to pay a set price for entry and dinner and book ahead in the busy season. For many travellers, it is one of the most memorable and joyful evenings of their whole Rajasthan trip.

C-Scheme: cafes and modern dining

For a contemporary scene, C-Scheme, the leafy, upmarket newer part of the city near Central Park, is full of stylish cafes and modern restaurants, popular with young Jaipur and serving everything from artisan coffee to global cuisine.

  • Tapri Central: a much-loved rooftop tea cafe near Central Park, famous for its masala chai served in earthenware cups, its poha, cheese maggi, bun maska and fusion snacks, with lovely views, soft music and a relaxed vibe that keeps it busy even on weekday afternoons.

  • Cafes and international food: the area has plenty of cafes and restaurants for coffee, brunch, Italian and other world cuisines, including stylish spots like Bar Palladio and Anokhi Cafe, a change of pace from the traditional bazaars.

It is the place to go for a relaxed, modern meal or a good coffee and where you are most likely to be able to pay by card as well as UPI.

Heritage and fine dining

For a taste of royal Jaipur, the city's palace hotels and heritage restaurants offer some of the most memorable dining in India, letting you eat like the maharajas once did:

  • Suvarna Mahal: at the Rambagh Palace, palace-style fine dining in a spectacular, gilded royal setting, one of the grandest dining rooms in the country.

  • 1135 AD: inside the Amer Fort, an atmospheric fine-dining restaurant serving Rajasthani cuisine amid the fort's historic grandeur, a magical setting for a special meal.

  • Peshawri: at the ITC Rajputana, celebrated for its rustic North West Frontier kebabs, dal and tandoori dishes.

These are premium, book-ahead experiences, perfect for a special occasion or a memorable last night in the Pink City.

How to plan a Jaipur food day

Jaipur's food fits beautifully around a day of sightseeing. A lovely approach is to start with a hot pyaaz kachori and a lassi at Rawat or in the old city for breakfast, spend the morning at Amer Fort, the City Palace and the bazaars and stop for a proper Rajasthani thali at LMB in Johari Bazaar for lunch, combining it with some shopping. In the evening, either head to Masala Chowk for a relaxed street-food dinner or make a night of it at Chokhi Dhani for the full village-and-thali cultural experience.

For a special occasion, swap the evening for a palace dinner at Suvarna Mahal or a fort meal at 1135 AD or a sunset on a rooftop. This way you taste the full sweep of Jaipur's food, from a few-rupees kachori to a royal feast, all in a single day. Come hungry, pace yourself and remember that the busiest stalls and restaurants are almost always the best ones.

Rooftop dining and views

Jaipur is a city made for eating with a view, with the forts, palaces and pink cityscape as a backdrop and its rooftop restaurants are a real highlight:

  • Peacock Rooftop Restaurant: one of the most loved rooftop spots, at a heritage hotel near the old city, popular with travellers for its food, its decor and its relaxed atmosphere.

  • Nahargarh and the Padao: for a sunset meal with sweeping views over the whole city, the hilltop cafe and restaurant at Nahargarh Fort is unbeatable, also covered in our night guide.

  • Hotel rooftops: many hotels across the city have rooftop restaurants, some with views of the forts or the old city, lovely for a candlelit dinner.

A rooftop dinner as the city lights come on is one of the loveliest ways to end a Jaipur day.

Vegetarian and Rajasthani thali

Jaipur is one of the most vegetarian-friendly cities in the world, as most traditional Rajasthani food is vegetarian and pure-veg restaurants are everywhere, so vegetarians never have to compromise:

  • LMB and Chokhi Dhani: the top choices for an authentic, hearty vegetarian Rajasthani thali, one in a heritage setting, the other with folk entertainment.

  • Spice Court and thali houses: more excellent Rajasthani and thali options, with Spice Court also good for those wanting laal maas and non-veg curries.

  • ISKCON Govindas and pure-veg cafes: for wholesome, sattvic pure-vegetarian meals, along with modern spots like Thali & More for a contemporary take on the classic thali.

Vegetarians are truly spoiled for choice in the Pink City, where vegetarian food is not an afterthought but the main event.

Tips for eating out in Jaipur

  • Try Masala Chowk for variety: it is the easiest, most hygienic way to sample lots of Jaipur street food at once, especially good in the evening.

  • Eat a Rajasthani thali: at LMB or Chokhi Dhani, for the full local experience of dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi and ker sangri.

  • Have a Rawat kachori: the pyaaz kachori is a Jaipur must, best eaten hot and fresh, ideally in the morning.

  • Book Chokhi Dhani and fine dining ahead: these are destination experiences that fill up, especially in the busy winter season.

  • Eat street food smartly: choose busy, popular stalls with high turnover, eat freshly cooked hot food and drink bottled or filtered water.

  • Combine food with sightseeing: many of the best food areas, like Johari Bazaar, MI Road and Masala Chowk, are close to the main sights.

  • Reconfirm before you go: eateries and their timings change, so check the current status of a specific place before setting out.
