Delhi to Udaipur is about 693 to 740 km and takes roughly 11 hours 42 minutes by road, with a few route options.

The NE4 route, part of the new Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, is the fastest despite being a little longer, thanks to its high-speed, access-controlled design.

How far is Udaipur to Delhi by road?

Udaipur to Delhi is about 721 to 753 km, taking a similar time in reverse.

Either way, plan for around eleven and a half to twelve hours of driving, so the road journey is a long day.

What is the best route from Delhi to Udaipur?

The quickest route now uses NE4, the new Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which has transformed the drive with its smooth, high-speed, access-controlled design, bringing Udaipur within about eleven and a half hours where it once took far longer. The older route via NH48 passes through Jaipur and Ajmer but takes longer on ordinary highways, though it does put those cities on your path if you want to stop.

Even on the expressway, at over 700 km it is a full day behind the wheel, so many travellers prefer to fly or take an overnight train. Those who do drive often break the journey with a stop, turning the long transfer into a rewarding road trip through Rajasthan, with the forts and towns along the way as much a part of the experience as Udaipur itself. If you choose to drive, set off early, plan your fuel and meal stops on the expressway and aim to reach Udaipur in daylight so you can enjoy your first evening by the lakes.

Is Udaipur a day trip from Delhi?

No, it is far too far for a day trip. At over 700 km and around eleven and a half hours each way by road, a Delhi to Udaipur day trip is simply not possible and even a there-and-back road journey would take several days. Udaipur is a destination to reach by flight or overnight train or to enjoy as part of a longer Rajasthan itinerary.

The good news is that Udaipur is very easy to reach quickly by air and comfortably by overnight train, so most travellers arrive rested and spend two or three days soaking up its beauty rather than rushing. Udaipur genuinely rewards a longer, unhurried stay, with its palaces, lakes, temples, museums and rooftop dining, along with day trips to nearby sights like Kumbhalgarh fort and the Ranakpur Jain temples, so it is worth building in a few days rather than a flying visit.

Can you fly from Delhi to Udaipur?

Yes and flying is by far the fastest way. Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport at Dabok, about 20 to 22 km from the city, has frequent direct flights from Delhi, taking only around one hour twenty minutes in the air. Compared with an eleven-hour drive or an overnight train, flying is comfortably the best option for most travellers.

The short transfer from the airport into the city means you can leave Delhi in the morning and be by the lakes the same day, making the most of your time in this lovely city. The airport is also well connected to other Indian cities, so Udaipur slots easily into a wider itinerary and for a short romantic break or a quick escape from the capital, a flight both ways is very appealing, letting you spend every hour of your trip enjoying the palaces and lakes rather than travelling.

Is there a train from Delhi to Udaipur?

Yes. Udaipur City is the main railway station, well connected to Delhi by direct trains, including comfortable overnight services like the Mewar Express, which let you sleep through the journey and arrive fresh in the morning. Udaipur City station is close to the centre and the lakes, so onward transfers are short. When is the best time to visit Udaipur?

The best time to visit Udaipur is October to March, when the weather is pleasant and cool for boat rides, palaces and lingering by the lakeside. The Mewar Festival in spring, celebrating the arrival of the season and the Shilpgram craft fair in winter, showcasing the arts of rural Rajasthan, add colour and culture to a visit, though the city is lovely at any cool time of year.

Summers, from April to June, are very hot, so if you travel then, plan for early mornings and evenings and enjoy the shade of the palaces and the cool of the lakes. The monsoon, from July to September, is a beautiful and increasingly popular time, when the lakes fill to the brim, the hills turn a lush green and a soft mist hangs over the water, giving the city its most romantic and photogenic mood.
