How far is Varanasi to Delhi by road?

Varanasi to Delhi is about 807 to 849 km, taking a similar time in reverse.

Either way, plan for around eleven to twelve hours of driving, so the road journey is a full day.

What is the best route from Delhi to Varanasi?

The quickest routes now use the new Ganga Expressway, part of the impressive chain of high-speed expressways that has transformed travel across Uttar Pradesh in recent years. Between Delhi and Varanasi, this network links up the Yamuna Expressway toward Agra, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway across to Lucknow and the Purvanchal Expressway on to the Varanasi region, alongside the newer Ganga Expressway that runs deep into the state.

If you do drive, keep to the expressways, carry the toll charges and set off early to reach Varanasi in daylight, since the old city is easier to navigate before dark.

Is Delhi to Varanasi a good road trip?

The best time to visit Varanasi is October to March, when the weather is pleasant for the ghats, boat rides and walking the old city. The festival of Dev Deepawali, in November, is especially magical, when thousands of lamps light up the ghats.

Summers, from April to June, are very hot, so if you travel then, plan for early mornings and evenings by the river and avoid the midday sun. The monsoon brings a swollen, powerful Ganga and fewer crowds, though boat rides may be limited when the river is high.
